Mykala Black, MS, MFT
I offer a steady place to land. My work is quiet, integrative, and deeply relational, grounded in the belief that therapy does not need to be performative to be powerful. Real change happens when people feel truly seen, understood, and supported, not rushed or pushed toward quick fixes. Whether I am working with a child, teen, adult, couple, or family, I strive to create a space where you can slow down, reflect, and show up as you are without pressure to have everything figured out.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I view challenges through a relational and trauma-informed lens. I believe our experiences, relationships, and environments shape how we understand ourselves, connect with others, and move through the world. For children and teens, this may involve understanding how emotions, family dynamics, friendships, or life transitions are affecting their well-being. For adults, couples, and families, it may involve exploring patterns that have developed over time and how those patterns continue to influence relationships, communication, and daily life.
To me, being trauma-informed means recognizing that our nervous systems learn ways to protect us, often very early on. These strategies can be incredibly adaptive, but sometimes they remain in place long after they stop serving us. Together, we take time to understand these patterns with curiosity rather than judgment, creating space for greater flexibility, healing, and connection.
In our work together, we will gently explore the ways you, your child, your relationship, or your family have learned to cope, connect, and navigate challenges. Depending on your goals, this may include strengthening emotional awareness, improving communication, navigating parenting challenges, repairing relationships, developing healthier boundaries, processing difficult experiences, or creating a greater sense of safety and stability. The work unfolds at a pace that feels respectful and sustainable, with attention to both insight and practical change.
My approach is warm, thoughtful, and collaborative. I believe that meaningful growth happens within safe and trusting relationships, and I work to create an environment where children, teens, adults, couples, and families feel supported, understood, and empowered.
If you are looking for therapy that feels thoughtful, attuned, and grounded, I invite you to reach out. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child, your relationship, or your family, we can talk about what you are hoping for and whether working together feels like a good fit. You do not have to navigate this alone, and support is available when you are ready.
